Chief Information Officer / IT Leader of the Year

This award recognises a senior technology leader who has delivered significant organisational impact through the strategic leadership of technology, digital infrastructure, and information systems.  

 Judges will look for leaders who have successfully aligned technology strategy with organisational objectives, strengthened operational resilience, and delivered measurable improvements in performance, security, or innovation. The award recognises CIOs and technology leaders whose work enables organisations to compete and thrive in an increasingly digital economy 

Criteria:
  1. Executive Track Record & Enterprise Impact (25 points)

(Maximum 350 words) 

Provide a concise executive overview outlining the nominee’s career progression in senior technology leadership roles. 

Submissions should focus on enterprise-scale responsibility including technology infrastructure, digital platforms, cybersecurity oversight, and technology budgets. 

Judges will assess: 

Progression to senior technology leadership 

Scope of responsibility across enterprise technology systems 

Evidence of transformation, operational resilience, or technology-enabled performance improvements 

Submissions should demonstrate strategic accountability for enterprise technology outcomes. 

2. Leadership Judgement, Governance & People Impact (25 points)

(Maximum 250 words) 

Provide evidence of the nominee’s leadership approach within technology organisations. 

Judges will look for: 

Leadership during complex technology change or risk environments 

Commitment to governance including cybersecurity, data integrity, and compliance 

Evidence of building strong technology teams and organisational capability 

Anecdotes should illustrate leadership decisions that strengthened organisational resilience. 

Question 3 – Strategic Execution & Commercial Impact (25 points) 

(Maximum 250 words) 

Detail achievements within the organisation over the past 12–18 months. 

Examples may include: 

  • Major marketing campaigns or brand transformation
  • Customer growth or audience expansion
  • Market share gains
  • Measurable commercial outcomes driven by marketing strategy 

Judges will assess the commercial impact of marketing leadership. 

Question 4 – Distinction & Broader Leadership Contribution 

(250 words – 25 points) 

Outline why the nominee represents exceptional leadership relative to peers. 

Examples may include: 

  • Industry leadership or thought leadership
  • Contribution to Ireland’s economic or innovation ecosystem
  • Mentoring or advisory roles
  • Influence beyond their organisation 

Judges are seeking leaders whose impact extends beyond individual organisational success. 

Evidence Requirement 

Submissions should include at least three pieces of supporting evidence where possible, such as: 

  • Financial performance indicators
  • Market growth or expansion metrics
  • Operational improvements
  • Policy or societal outcomes
